Special Occasion Jewelry
Maybe you’re already married to the girl of your dreams and want to surprise her with a stunning diamond pendant or anniversary ring. A diamond is forever, and so is your love for her. New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to show your love how much you treasure the memories you two have shared. What better way to show how much you adore her than with a big, beautiful, diamond?
The Shape of Things
There are many factors to consider when buying a diamond. The shape, color, grade and clarity present many options. Will your love prefer a traditional round cut? Other diamond cuts are emerald, Asscher, oval, marquee cushion, radiant, pear, and heart. All these shapes are distinct with their own characteristics and can they can be set into whatever ring or pendant setting you desire. You only need to pay attention to your love’s taste in jewelry to know if she prefers white or yellow gold settings.
How Diamonds Are Graded
The 4C’s used to determine the price of a diamond are the carat weight, color, clarity, and cut. The cut is graded excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor. The color scale goes from D to Z, including colorless, near colorless, faint, very light, and light. The clarity scale starts with flawless, internally flawless, very slightly included-VVS1 and VVS2, very slightly included-VS1 and VS2, slightly included-S1 and S2, and included-I1, I2, and I3.
A diamond in the S1 or S2 range is good and is much more economical when buying a larger diamond. If you are setting the diamond in a yellow gold setting, and I1, I2, or I3, any color in the diamond will be unnoticeable, and you can get more diamond for your money. There are many beautiful diamonds that are not perfect, but are clean to the eye, and the tradeoff may be well worth it. If the diamond doesn’t have any flaws or inclusions that can be seen without 10x magnification, it can be a beautiful and wise choice.
